One of the most tragic kinds of vehicle accidents involves a commercial truck and a passenger vehicle. So many drivers are at risk every time they drive next to a truck, and they might not even know it. Whether you drive a commercial truck for work or you're driving a passenger vehicle, be aware of the best practices to use on the highway.
Cesar Ornelas Injury Law wants to make the roads safer places to drive. We see the consequences of driving mistakes every single day, and we're committed to reducing them as much as we can. That includes informing every driver of the risks involved when driving next to large trucks - especially in the highest risk trucking accident areas in America.
Some areas of the country are particularly vulnerable to trucking collisions. If you regularly drive on any of the following states' highways or have plans to travel on these roads soon, be aware of your surroundings.
You don't want to be part of the injuries and fatalities incurred on these roads due to trucking accidents. The best way to avoid danger on these roads is to know how vulnerable you are in a passenger vehicle and how to drive around large trucks.
First and foremost, the weight and size of large commercial trucks are so much bigger than passenger vehicles. This means that any collision between the two usually ends tragically for the passenger vehicle and its driver. Other reasons why large trucks put you at higher risk in these areas of the country include:
Commercial trucks are much larger and require more space around them to safely drive down the road. Stay out of the blind spots that most large trucks have to allow the truck driver to see you and make appropriate changes in direction.
Whatever space you usually put between your car and another vehicle, increase it. Commercial trucks need more space to brake to avoid hitting you, more space to signal before changing lanes and more space to turn. Be aware of your position on the road, and give truck drivers ample room to maneuver.
Don't let yourself get distracted on the road - especially when driving near or passing a large truck. Make sure you are laser-focused so that no one makes a tragic mistake. One of the best things you can do to help the situation is to remain patient. Give truck drivers time to accelerate, decelerate and make any changes in their direction.
