The Los Angeles Clippers hired Dan Craig as an assistant coach on Monday, according to a Miami Herald report, as he joins the staff of new head coach Tyronn Lue.
Craig has worked in various roles for the Miami Heat since 2003, leaving for a short stint in 2015-16 to become head coach of the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the development G-League. Craig, 40, returned in 2016 to resume his role as a Heat assistant coach under head coach Erik Spoelstra.
Lue officially was promoted to Clippers head coach last Tuesday after serving as an assistant under Doc Rivers, who left the team by mutual agreement. The Clippers were eliminated from the playoffs in the second round by the Denver Nuggets.
According to the New York Times, Kenny Atkinson and Chauncey Billups are likely to join Lue's staff as well. Billups, who has served as the Clippers' color commentator on television broadcasts, reportedly interviewed for the coaching position on Monday. Larry Drew also is expected to join the Clippers in an assistant role.
