Mundine stripped of interim WBA title over failure to fight reigning champ Austin Trout

The World Boxing Association (WBA) has stripped Anthony Mundine of his interim super welterweight title after he failed to undertake a mandatory fight against title-holder American Austin Trout in Panama.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Mundine has previously turned down a world title fight against champion Trout following which the WBA scheduled a purse bid at its Panama headquarters last month but no one from the Mundine's camp appeared.

Mundine, who turns 37 next week, said he was seeking a three-fight deal that would lead him to the big names, including Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. (ANI)
